What does the job consist of?

As a nurse in the T52 surgery unit, you accompany patients throughout their surgical journey, from pre-operative preparation to the immediate post-operative phase. You play a central role in their care, ensuring safety, comfort and quality of care. The unit accommodates a variety of interventions, with a specialization in digestive surgery, including the management of patients with ostomy.

• Pre-operative preparation : Welcome patients, inform them about the course of their day, check fasting instructions, carry out skin preparation (shaving, appropriate clothing), and ensure that all the conditions are met for the operation (absence of jewelry, complete documents, etc.).

• Immediate post-operative follow-up : Take care of the patient when he or she leaves the recovery room. Ensure careful monitoring during the first 24 hours: control of vital parameters, pain management, dressing procedures, monitoring of drains or stomas, and early detection of any complications.

• Multidisciplinary teamwork : Work closely with surgeons, physiotherapists, dieticians, anaesthetists, etc., to guarantee comprehensive and personalised care.

• Traceability and professional rigour : Accurately document all care and observations in the computerized patient record, in compliance with procedures and quality requirements.

• You will be supervised by Gaudy Madriz, head nurse and Boulaares Larbi, deputy head nurse

• The unit is composed of 12 nurses and 1 logistics assistant. It has 24 beds, divided into 4 areas of 6 beds, each nurse being responsible for 6 patients at all times

• You will work at the Etterbeek-Ixelles site in Ixelles

Your education

• You are in possession of a Bachelor's degree or a certificate in nursing (graduate) stamped and registered by the Medical Commission of Brabant.

Your experiences and knowledge

• You already have experience and are looking for a new experience

• Experience in surgery is an asset.

• You have a good knowledge of Dutch: You are able to understand the patient's needs and communicate with your colleagues

Your skills

• You are able to remain calm even in critical situations. Keeping a cool head allows you to act effectively and prioritize quickly without losing quality of care or communication.

• You know how to manage your time and priorities in order to ensure optimal patient follow-up.

• You are able to take a step back, reflect on your practice and exercise relevant clinical judgment. It is not only a question of "doing", but also of thinking about your practice in the service of care.
