R&D downstream processing (DSP) & analytical specialist
Job description
Our bioconversion unit uses fungi to cost-effectively turn large volume unused waste streams into high value-added biomolecules: drastically reducing the textile products incinerated or sent to landfill while producing high-quality products to substitute chemical-based surfactants, enzymes and biogas at lower prices.
This role is pivotal in bridging the gap between our fungal fermentation breakthroughs and high-purity final products. You will lead the development of purification protocols for biosurfactants and metabolites, ensuring they meet the rigorous standards required for industrial application.
👉 What you'll do:
You will be responsible for developing and executing purification workflows and analytical testing, with a strong focus on biosurfactants, lipids, sugars, and proteins. You will operate at the intersection of process development and analytical chemistry, using your expertise in chromatography and filtration to drive our fungal technology from the benchtop toward industrial application.
Design and optimize purification workflows for biosurfactants and small molecules, transitioning from benchtop to upscaled production.
Conduct rigorous analysis of lipids, sugars, and proteins using HPLC, mass spectrometry (MS), and spectroscopic techniques to validate product quality.
Contribute to the final formulation stages to ensure product stability and functionality for end-user applications.
Interpret complex analytical datasets to troubleshoot process bottlenecks and improve recovery yields.
Collaborate with other scientists and researchers to support project goals.
Contribute to a safe and organised laboratory environment.
Support continuous improvement - Identifying bottlenecks, testing solutions, and iterating quickly in a startup environment.
Profile
👌 You are the ideal candidate if you have:
A Master’s degree or phd in in Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Biotechnology.
Technical skills and professional experience:
2 to 5 years of hands-on experience in a laboratory ideally within an R&D or pilot-plant setting. You have moved beyond basic execution to actively optimizing protocols.
Solid foundation in biochemical purification and analytical characterization.
Strong background in biosurfactant and small molecules.
Practical expertise in filtration (UF/TFF), chromatography techniques and scale-up principles.
Knowledge in analytical chemistry (HPLC, MS...) applied to biochemical compounds.
Spirit: You thrive in a dynamic and often ambiguous startup environment, comfortable rolling up your sleeves, taking charge of inventing, consolidating, and scaling solutions. You can work independently and focus on what matters most, with a collaborative and positive mindset.
Passion for the mission: Your motivation stems from an urgent need to restore our planet. Your role is to commit to developing and implementing the best solutions for a sustainable future. 🌱
Communication and collaboration:
Able to communicate accurately and effectively, both orally and in writing.
An excellent team player, able to collaborate with colleagues and partners with diverse skills and experience (including biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, technology, administration and management profiles).
Fluency and fluency in French and English (oral and written) is required to communicate effectively with team members, clients and partners.
Why apply?
High-impact and innovative work : Join a fast-growing, well-funded startup that has a significant environmental impact through innovation and a passion for nature.
A collaborative and caring culture : Thrive in a dynamic and caring environment, where your contribution truly makes a difference. ✨
Complete health coverage : hospitalisation insurance with Alan.
A good work/life balance : Take advantage of flexible hours and the possibility of teleworking. 💻
Leaves : 32 days off per year to recharge your batteries.
