Job description

The Iris Hospitals South, the CHU Saint-Pierre and the Brussels University Hospital (H.U.B) are part of a strategic grouping project of public and university hospital institutions in Brussels, supported by a favorable opinion from the medical councils. This dynamic strengthens collaboration between teams while consolidating the stability of our institutions and supporting their evolution toward an increasingly integrated and cohesive care offering. It constitutes a genuine opportunity to join a stimulating environment driven by strong values of public service, clinical and academic excellence.

The IRIS Hospitals South are looking for,

For the Psychology Department, at the Etterbeek-Ixelles site,

a Clinical Psychologist within the Pain Clinic(m/f/x)

under a fixed-term contract (6 months), part-time (19h/week)

The Psychology Department promotes a humanist approach, considering the individual within their history and their family and social ties. Your mission will be to ensure, in collaboration with the various stakeholders, the work of a clinical psychologist within the Pain Clinic.

As a care provider within the Clinic, you will ensure autonomously and collaboratively a specific diagnostic and therapeutic mission, integrated into the multidisciplinary care of patients suffering from chronic pain, in compliance with ethics.

What does the job involve?

As a clinical psychologist, you will be expected to:

Your missions

-        Conduct psychological evaluation interviews and individual therapeutic follow-ups with patients presenting with chronic pain, taking into account their history, personality, and the psychological, relational, and functional impacts of pain;

-        Perform psychological and psychopathological evaluations, particularly in the context of preliminary assessments for neurostimulation, in order to identify potential psychiatric comorbidities and specific patient needs;

-        Support patients through their care pathway, especially when they present significant psychological distress, adaptation difficulties to pain, or ambivalence regarding psychological follow-up;

-        Collaborate closely with psychologists, anaesthetists, nurses, physiotherapists, and occupational therapists to promote multidisciplinary and coordinated patient care;

-        Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and consultations of the Pain Clinic and encourage communication and team reflection to improve patient care;

-        Propose and facilitate discussion groups, thematic workshops, or activities adapted to patient needs as part of their therapeutic support;

-        Participate in clinical meetings of psychologists as well as the psychiatry seminar (every 3rd Tuesday of the month).

What about you?

You hold a Master's degree in clinical psychology. You have training or an orientation in analytical therapy, CBT, systemic therapy, or ethnopsychiatry.

You possess an accreditation and a visa issued by the FPS Public Health authorizing the practice of the profession of clinical psychologist.

Experience (ideally 3 years) as a psychologist within a hospital, particularly in the management of patients presenting with acute or chronic pain, is an asset.

You have a good knowledge of psychopathology and are able to identify and evaluate potential psychiatric comorbidities, particularly in the context of preliminary assessments for neurostimulation.

You have knowledge of the general public hospital and the issues related to the multidisciplinary management of patients with complex clinical situations.

You are looking for a new experience. You wish to work in a local hospital where all employees are committed to serving life with passion, kindness, and respect. People are at the center of your concerns.

You demonstrate creativity and adaptability in finding solutions with patients and care teams.

You are capable of supporting patients whose pain persists despite treatments, showing patience, perseverance, and tolerance for frustration, without feeling the need to provide an immediate solution to every situation.

You know how to adapt your approach to patients who are sometimes ambivalent about psychological support, particularly when they prioritize a medical response to their difficulties.

You are versatile and organized in the execution of your tasks. You are capable of managing a heavy workload, emergencies, and priorities while maintaining the quality of patient care.

You are autonomous in your work, take initiatives, and know the limits of your professional framework. You also enjoy working within a team and have a strong sense of collaboration.

Faced with a difficult situation, you show diplomacy and assertiveness and manage your stress. You are capable of coping with crisis situations, particularly in the presence of significant psychological distress, suicidal ideation, or psychiatric decompensation, and of calling upon the appropriate relays.

Open to the cultural and social diversity of patients, you are able to adapt your language to a diverse range of interlocutors.

You have a strong sense of service and are patient-oriented. You possess excellent listening and communication skills, both oral and written.

You are discreet, act with integrity, and respect confidentiality.

You do not hesitate to discuss difficulties you encounter and seek the opinion of your colleagues. You appreciate clinical exchanges, intervision, and the sharing of practices with other psychologists in order to reflect together on complex situations and promote collaborative work organization.

You are capable of collaborating with a multidisciplinary team with varied practices and approaches, including in complex relational contexts, while maintaining a constructive professional posture.

You show an interest in facilitating discussion groups and therapeutic workshops intended for patients suffering from chronic pain. Prior experience in this field is an asset.

You will carry out your missions exclusively within the Pain Clinic, in collaboration with the various professionals who make it up.

You have a good command of French and have a good knowledge of the second national language.
