Job description

  Hôpitaux IRIS Sud is looking for, 

For the Sterilization Department

at the sites of Etterbeek-Ixelles & Molière Longchamp in Forest

a Head Nurse (m/f) 

Under a full-time open-ended contract

What does the job involve? 

The Sterilization Department processes re-sterilizable medical devices from operating rooms, the delivery suite, care units and consultations, as well as loaned ancillary equipment. The team consists of 18 full-time equivalents.

As Head Nurse for the Sterilization Department, your mission will be to manage this unit and guide the team. You will carry out your duties in accordance with the institution's vision and ethical values, legislation, regulations and internal procedures, as well as the allocated budget. 

Under the responsibility of the Head Nurse Manager, you will be expected to:

- Manage your team:

- Set annual objectives for your unit

- Supervise, motivate, evaluate and identify the training needs of your team members

- Communicate information and decisions 

- Manage conflicts and redirect your team if necessary

- Participate in the recruitment of nurses and sterilization assistants

- Participate in the onboarding process for new hires

- Supervise students, in collaboration with the ICANES

- Ensure the administrative management of your unit's personnel:

- Establish, plan and encode schedules and leave in the management software

- Manage and allocate your team's workforce according to needs

- Plan staffing needs

- Propose improvements to the service's organization

- Ensure the coordination and quality of care in your unit:

- Develop and adapt work procedures, ensuring quality is developed at every stage of the process

- Maintain contact with the operating theater, physicians, consultations, the pharmacy, the purchasing department and the biomedical department

- Participate in the coordination of processes related to the sterilization of medical devices, in alignment with regulatory, normative and institutional requirements.

-     Collaborate with the pharmacy and the sterilization coordinator for risk management, quality assurance,

      documentation and traceability (records, non-conformities, corrective and preventive actions).

-    Collaborate in partnership with the sterilization coordinator and pharmacy on continuous improvement initiatives, internal and external audits, as well as inspections by competent authorities.

-    Get involved in the evaluation and introduction of new medical devices or processes, in consultation with the pharmacy and user departments.

-     Promote structured and proactive communication with the pharmacy and the sterilization coordinator to ensure a cross-functional and integrated approach to quality and safety of care

-     Participate in working groups and meetings related to your expertise

-     Participate in the Head Nurses' on-call duty

What about you? 

Your training:

- You hold a Bachelor's degree (or Graduate degree) in Nursing, endorsed and registered by the Medical Commission of Brabant

- You have specific training in sterilization (or commit to taking the training within 2 years) and at least 3 years of experience in a sterilization department/operating theater.

- You have followed complementary training related to team management (cadres school or Master's degree). Candidates who have successfully completed the first year of the cadres school or Master's degree may also apply

Your experience and knowledge:

- You have relevant experience as a nurse 

- You have confirmed experience in team management

- Having training in sterilization techniques is an asset

- You have good knowledge of legislation concerning hospitals, the profession and the department

- You have a good knowledge of the second national language

- You have good computer skills (Steriline, etc.)

Remuneration based on IFIC scales (category 17) with recognition of seniority

  • Min: 4,184.93 (index: 2.1223)
  • Max: 6,425.50 (index: 2.1223)
