Who are we?

Nature & Progrès is an association of consumers and producers, a pioneer of organic farming in Belgium. For more than forty years, we have brought together a community of actors committed to a society that is more respectful of the environment, health and living things.

Within the association, the Wallonia Without Pesticides project aims to encourage the transition to organic agriculture and food. Funded by the Walloon Region as part of the Walloon Pesticide Reduction Programme, the project seeks to understand the social representations of organic farming by consumers and producers, and how these can slow down or promote the agri-food transition.

In this context, we are looking for an intern wishing to develop concrete experience in qualitative research in the social sciences, within an association committed to agricultural and food transitions.

Your mission

The internship combines a social science research dimension and participation in the project's field activities.

1. Participation in sociological research

You will be directly involved in the study of representations of organic food. In particular, you will be in charge of a specific part of the research devoted to the analysis of media, political and institutional discourses on organic farming.

Your missions may include:

• Monitoring and analysis of media literature;

• The analysis of political and institutional discourses;

• The identification and analysis of representations and controversies associated with organic farming;

• Conducting qualitative interviews with structures and organizations related to organic farming;

• Updating the literature review;

• Participation in the design and analysis of the different stages of the research;

• Logistical and reflexive support during the realization of focus groups.

This internship will allow you to participate in the different stages of qualitative research, from literature review to data collection and analysis.

2. Participation in project activities

As part of the project, several awareness-raising actions will be developed and tested with different audiences.

• You may be required to participate in:

• Organization and logistical support during field activities;

• Monitoring and evaluation of pilot projects.

3. Associative life

The intern will also be required to:

• Participate in certain Nature & Progrès activities;

• Meet producers and partners in the sector;

• Contribute to the collective dynamics of the team.

You are:

• Master's student in sociology, anthropology, humanities and social sciences, political science, population and development sciences, or a related discipline;

• Comfortable with social science research methods, including qualitative interviews and focus groups;

• Interested in issues related to food, agriculture and ecological transitions;

• Autonomous, rigorous and organized;

• Have good writing and analytical skills;

• Comfortable interacting with different audiences.

A first experience in qualitative research is an asset.
