Job description

The General Affairs Department plays a central role in the security, governance and development of the organization by ensuring that the legal, institutional, cooperative and logistical dimensions constitute a lever for Smart's activities, teams and members. It ensures a safe and consistent work environment, supports member  service activities

In order to steer these activities, we are looking for our future Director of General Affairs. 

Activities and tasks 

The Director of Corporate Affairs defines and drives Smart's legal, institutional, and organizational operating framework to ensure security, compliance, and business continuity. He/she supports the organization's transformations, develops a forward-looking vision of regulatory and institutional issues, and contributes to the organization's  strategic decisions. He/she coordinates a multidisciplinary department bringing together complementary expertise and ensures their coherence, efficiency and quality of service. 

In concrete terms, the Director of General Affairs is responsible for:  

  • Structure and secure Smart's operations by defining, developing and guaranteeing the organization's legal, institutional and cooperative framework as well as by developing risk management, internal control and monitoring systems. 

  • Guarantee quality cooperative operation by ensuring the proper functioning of governance bodies, supporting the cooperative dynamic and member engagement, guaranteeing the quality, transparency and fluidity of decision-making processes and ensuring alignment between governance, the cooperative project and Smart's activities

  • Develop the organization's infrastructure by implementing Smart's real estate strategy, managing choices related to locations and workspaces and ensuring the quality, compliance, sustainability and cost control of buildings and infrastructure. 

  • Manage and federate multidisciplinary teams by promoting collective intelligence, transversality and commitment, support skills development and promote a culture of cooperation, innovation and continuous improvement.  

  • Contribute to the overall management of Smart by participating in the organization's strategic orientations, supporting the CEO in arbitrations and decision-making, prioritizing actions in complex environments and optimally managing your department's budget

Profile

  • Master's level higher education (law, management, management sciences, political science, social sciences, real estate, territorial development, social economy, public administration or equivalent) 

  • Proven experience of at least 5 years in a management position, multidisciplinary team management and change management

  • Fluency in one of the two national languages (FR/NL) and knowledge of the other language (level B1) is required. Fluency in English is an asset 

  • Knowledge of cooperative models, the social economy sector and territorial issues is a plus 

  • Key skills: developing a vision, cooperating, developing others, deciding, negotiating, project management, decision-making, stress management and change management
