Research Engineer in Bioremediation
Job description
We are looking for a highly motivated project manager and bioremediation researcher to join our innovative team. In this dual role, you will be instrumental in managing the end-to-end implementation of our state-of-the-art bioremediation projects while actively conducting research to improve our impact. 🚀
Our unique approach combines metabolic bioremediation models based on digital twins with tailor-made fungus-based remediation strategies. You will mainly focus on the degradation of persistent and emerging contaminants in various contexts such as soils, industrial wastewater and sludge. You will work in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, applying rigorous scientific methods to address complex environmental challenges and optimize bioremediation processes.
👉 What you'll do:
💻 Project management and implementation:
Participate in the initial design of bioremediation projects, adapting solutions to the specifics of the matrix to be taken into account / Lead the day-to-day implementation of bioremediation projects, coordinating inputs from different internal teams, including laboratory, production, computational biology and strain and fermentation units.
Develop and implement investigation protocols for contaminated matrices.
Participate in the development of protocols, sample collection and analysis to define the most appropriate bioremediation approach and the conduct of biotreatability studies (implementation, monitoring and exploitation of results) according to the client's requirements.
Monitor bioremediation process data to assess effectiveness and work with the Project Director to make adjustments as needed for optimization while meeting environmental standards.
Maintain detailed records of project experiences, field evaluations, and results, ensuring that data management best practices and reporting guidelines are followed.
Effectively communicate project and research results and contribute to reports for internal teams, clients, and regulators.
🔬 Research & Development:
Design, implement, and improve soil fungal bioremediation solutions.
Conduct research to identify appropriate microorganisms or biological agents to deal with specific environmental contaminants, with a particular passion for fungi and the relationship between plants and fungi.
Develop and optimize bioremediation processes through laboratory experiments.
Evaluate and develop new methods and equipment to implement fungal bioremediation approaches, addressing various contaminated waste streams.
Collaborate closely with the Computational Biology and Genomics and Modeling Departments to continuously improve our digital bioremediation support tools by feeding and integrating machine learning-based models. By bringing your expertise in microbial ecology and soil economics, you will play a key role in developing these digital solutions to solve remediation challenges and meet market needs.
Contribute to the supply of wild strains to enrich our unique collection of fungi (via the isolation and selection of wild strains from polluted matrices and the subsequent characterization of metabolic capacities).
Profile
👌 You are the ideal candidate if you have:
A master's or doctoral degree in environmental engineering, geology, bioengineering, civil engineering with basic experience in microbial ecology, systems biology applied to soil ecosystems, soil science (, or a related field). 🎓
Technical skills and professional experience:
1 to 5 years of professional experience in the environmental consulting/engineering industry.
Proven know-how in environmental microbiology and bioremediation techniques.
Hands-on field experience in soil bioremediation, including operation and maintenance of sanitation systems, and in situ and ex-situ remediation design.
Proficiency in the analysis of environmental data and the use of laboratory analysis tools.
Experience with omics tools and approaches applied to the study of soil microbial communities is highly valued.
Good knowledge of the sanitation industry, legislative frameworks and implementation and management of sanitation projects.
A successful experience in leading technical teams. 🤝
A strong ability to design and execute complex experimental designs and turn them into clear reports.
Spirit: You thrive in a dynamic and often ambiguous startup environment, comfortable rolling up your sleeves, taking charge of inventing, consolidating, and scaling solutions. You can work independently and focus on what matters most, with a collaborative and positive mindset.
Passion for the mission: Your motivation stems from an urgent need to restore our planet. Your role is to commit to developing and implementing the best solutions for a sustainable future. 🌱
Communication and collaboration:
Able to communicate accurately and effectively, both orally and in writing.
An excellent team player, able to collaborate with colleagues and partners with diverse skills and experience (including biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, technology, administration and management profiles).
Fluency and fluency in French and English (oral and written) is required to communicate effectively with team members, clients and partners.
Why apply?
High-impact and innovative work : Join a fast-growing, well-funded startup that has a significant environmental impact through innovation and a passion for nature.
A collaborative and caring culture : Thrive in a dynamic and caring environment, where your contribution truly makes a difference. ✨
