Job description

The Iris Sud Hospitals, the Saint-Pierre University Hospital and the Brussels University Hospital (H.U.B) are part of a project for a strategic grouping of public and university hospitals in Brussels, supported by a favourable opinion from the medical councils. This dynamic strengthens collaboration between teams, while consolidating the stability of our establishments and supporting their evolution towards an ever more integrated and coherent care offer. It is a real opportunity to join a stimulating environment, driven by strong values of public service, clinical and academic excellence.

IRIS South Hospitals is looking for,

For the T12 internal medicine unit – stroke unit at the Etterbeek-Ixelles site (Ixelles),

A Head Nurse (m/f/x)

Under a fixed-term contract (9 months) full-time

You like to set a framework, clarify roles, federate and develop your team. You recognize the work that has been done. You intervene when necessary. You have a coach's attitude. You inspire your team by example. You make your team grow by empowering them. You create the best conditions for your team to focus on what matters most: the quality of patient care. Do you recognize yourself? It is these managerial skills that we are looking for in you.

What the job consists of and what are your goals

1) Manage and grow the team

  • You will manage the daily activity of the T12 unit by coordinating the teams, organising resources and ensuring the availability of the equipment necessary for the proper functioning of the service
  • You set a clear framework for working and support the team with regular feedback that makes progress. You value what is going well, you encourage, and you name what needs to change when necessary. Everyone knows what is expected of them, roles and responsibilities are defined

2) Guaranteeing the quality of care

  • You empower the team: the goal is a proactive unit, capable of operating autonomously
  • You guarantee the application and continuous improvement of patient care processes

3) Building collaborations and supporting change

You will work in close collaboration with all the players in the unit and the medicine-surgery department

  • You are building a tandem with Amandine, the deputy head nurse, based on trust and transparency. You recognize what she has achieved and you move forward together, with a common direction
  • You will participate in the dynamics of the medicine-surgery division, a multi-site division (Joseph Bracops, Etterbeek-Ixelles and Molière Lonchamp)
  • You are leading Care Up!, the institutional project of the medicine department, with the head nurses of the center. In practice: move from integrated nursing to group nursing, support the transition to a new model of collaboration between nurses, nursing assistants and nursing assistants

4) Ensure the proper functioning of the T12 unit

  • You monitor the unit's activity and ensure efficient management of resources
  • You contribute to maintaining a balanced budget and the overall performance of the unit

What pathologies in T12?

Our T12 unit is an internal medicine unit that also includes a stroke unit in order to optimize the care of stroke patients. Patients, whether or not they have been treated with thrombolysis in the emergency department, are transferred to this specialized cerebrovascular unit. They benefit from reinforced continuous surveillance and specialized and adapted care.

Your manager, your team and your environment

  • Anne Regnier, Head of Nurse (ICS), is your direct manager. It equips you if necessary, supports you and adapts to where you are as a manager. To find out more about her, click here: https://lnkd.in/egqidbtN
  • You co-lead the unit alongside Amandine Sion, Deputy Head Nurse (ICA), your right-hand woman, who has an excellent knowledge of this unit, the field and the team
  • You will supervise a team of 14 nurses, 2 nursing assistants, 1 logistical assistant and 1 administrative assistant
  • You will work at the Etterbeek-Ixelles site located at Rue Jean Paquot 63, 1050 Ixelles
  • Unit T12 has 22 internal medicine beds and 4 stroke unit beds, the only unit of its kind within the Iris Sud Hospitals. To take charge of it is to assume a rare responsibility and to maintain it at the level it deserves

What you'll like about this post

  • You will guide a competent team that shows natural support, and you will have the pleasure of helping them progress
  • You work in a multidisciplinary environment where everyone works together: doctors, physiotherapists, social workers, dieticians, occupational therapists, speech therapists. Doctors place a great deal of trust in your team and regularly seek their expertise
  • You will join the medicine-surgery department, a multi-site center with cohesion between head nurses and deputy head nurses, a foundation for moving forward together, sharing challenges
  • You actively participate in large-scale institutional projects such as Care up!

How about we talk about you?

Your education

  • You hold a Bachelor's degree in nursing approved and registered by the Medical Commission of Brabant
  • You have completed additional training in team management (executive school or Master's degree) or you are in class, with at least the first year successful
  • Don't have stroke training yet? You agree to follow it

Your experience and knowledge

  • You have already worked in a hospital environment to understand from the inside what a care team experiences on a daily basis, the pathologies, the rhythm, the constraints
  • Experience in a medical unit, acute care (ICU, Emergency) is a great asset
  • Experience in team management is a plus. Haven't you held a managerial position yet? It's not a hindrance if you have common sense, rigor and the desire to learn
  • You have a good knowledge of Dutch

Your skills

  • You have a natural "locomotive" attitude, you know how to motivate and create a positive dynamic
  • You have confidence in yourself, without crushing others
  • You have a coaching posture: you focus your management on listening, feedback, valuing, support and encouragement in order to accompany the team towards what is expected
  • You have a clear vision of the objectives and areas for improvement, and you are able to communicate it unambiguously. When something needs to be said, you say it, with the right measure at the right time
  • You read between the lines. You also see the ones that don't make noise. You build your own opinion on each situation and on each person
  • Rigorous and constant, you will carry out your actions and manage priorities one by one
  • You take responsibility for your decisions. You don't hide behind procedures or behind the team. You ask your lead from the beginning

What we offer you

  • Type of contract: 9-month fixed-term contract. This contract replaces an absent member of the management team. It's a position in its own right, with real responsibilities from day one. We don't promise anything about the future, but a foot in a hospital environment opens doors, within HIS or elsewhere
  • Working time: 100% (38h/week)
  • Schedule: 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday to Friday. A 5-day presence ensures your managerial anchoring in the unit
  • Guards: You will join the on-call pool for 3 of the 4 sites (Joseph Bracops in Anderlecht, Molière Longchamp in Forest and Etterbeek-Ixelles in Etterbeek). As the pool of managers is very large, your on-call frequency remains particularly low. In practice: You will be present on site at the weekend (Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., ideally at your reference site), while remaining reachable remotely until Monday morning
  • Start date: As soon as possible

Remuneration based on IFIC scales (category 17) with resumption of seniority
