Job description

In order to develop and facilitate the use of bicycles in Belgium, Pro Velo has been supporting individuals, public authorities, schools and companies since 1992. Our services aim to make cycling accessible to all through personalized support. In this way, Pro Velo contributes to a better quality of life!

The communication department of the non-profit association has a dual role: on the one hand, it has the task of promoting the activities and products offered and, on the other hand, of providing the various target groups with up-to-date and comprehensive information on cycling.

Your mission

Together with your colleagues from the communications team, you will be responsible for operational communication in Brussels. Among other things, you will develop communication plans for various projects, be available for questions from the press, manage the website, monitor social media channels and take care of the monthly newsletter.

Your tasks

  • You are a liaison between the communication team and the other (Brussels) teams.

  • You stay informed about their activities and spot communication opportunities.

  • Together with your colleagues, you develop communication plans , implement them and then evaluate them.

  • You will work closely with your colleagues in the communication team (community manager, copywriter, graphic designer, etc.). You sit around the table with them at least once a week to discuss the progress of projects.

  • You create content : you write texts for the website, the written press, social media or the newsletter, you make videos and you sit on the editorial board. As part of these activities, travel and very occasional work in the evening or on weekends are possible.

  • As the Dutch-speaking spokesperson for the organisation, you maintain good relations with the press and speak to them in writing and orally in the event of unsolicited questions or when launching major campaigns.

  • You work with institutional and associative partners (e.g. Brussels Mobility and the Cyclists' Union), as well as with all kinds of external service providers (request for quotes, project monitoring, etc.).

  • You manage the website and the translation mailbox and ensure smooth processing of requests.

  • You will develop ways to standardize and facilitate the functioning of the communication team.


  • Ideally, you already have some experience in a communications department with demonstrable experience in developing and deploying communication campaigns.

  • Dutch is your mother tongue and you are fluent in French, which is important in a predominantly French-speaking work environment. English is an asset.

  • You are creative, with excellent writing skills and excellent spelling.

  • You are also fluent in verbal communication and can formulate things clearly. An interview doesn't scare you.

  • You adapt quickly, are proactive, independent and have a healthy sense of responsibility.

  • You are well organized and can carry out projects.

  • Deadlines are sacred to you.

  • You are a jack-of-all-trades who invariably works in an orderly and meticulous manner.

  • Active mobility and sustainability are important to you.

  • Experience in everything related to bicycle mobility in Brussels (government, politics, associations, etc.) is a plus.

  • Social media doesn't hold many secrets for you, and you can manage graphic design tools, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.

  • You have a good knowledge of CMS systems.
