Job description

To complete its " Consulting, support and studies " department, based in Brussels and composed of 7 people, the non-profit organisation Pro Velo is looking to hire a project and survey manager.

The main missions of this team are to conduct studies and surveys on bicycle mobility, to advise and support public administrations in the operationalization of policies to promote and anchor cycling.

  • Being a woman and a cyclist in Brussels

  • Cycling in commuting to and from school in Brussels

Your missions

The Project and Investigations Officer works as operational support within the department. He/she is in charge of carrying out surveys and studies carried out by the department, mainly on behalf of public administrations, in connection with the development of cycling policies in Brussels (and Wallonia).  

He/she participates in the deployment of the department through the development of new missions or the establishment of new partnerships. He/she will also be involved in cross-cutting tasks and reflections involving the other departments.

Your tasks

  • Advice and support for public authorities (municipalities, provinces, regions) in the implementation of their cycling policy.

  • Development of local cycling action plans.

  • Co-coordination and management of part of the Brussels Bicycle Observatory: design and implementation of qualitative and quantitative surveys on the practice and experience of cycling in the Brussels region.

  • Fieldwork : flow analyses, context analyses, monitoring of cycle routes.

  • Qualitative and quantitative analyses and data syntheses.

  • Support for research, analysis and data collection tasks in projects conducted by other departments.

  • Translation of the results of surveys and analyses into proposals for innovative solutions and projects.

  • Canvassing, responding to calls for tenders and monitoring service offers.

  • Drafting of reports related to the projects carried out and public presentation of the results (cycling commission, conference, symposium, etc.).

  • Management of other projects related to the theme of cycling.


  • You have a minimum of 5 years' experience in project and survey management, ideally in the field of sociology and/or urban planning.

  • You have a good knowledge of applied social research and action research methods.

  • You have a good geographical and institutional knowledge (mobility and spatial planning) at the regional level (Walloon and Brussels).

  • You have good writing and analytical skills.

  • Creative, you are able to imagine new ideas.

  • You have a certain ease in expressing yourself in public.

  • You are autonomous, pro-active and responsible.

  • Organized, you are respectful of deadlines.

  • Regular cyclist, concerned with active mobility and environmental issues.

  • Experience in a mobility design office is a plus.

  • Good oral and written command of Dutch and English is an asset.
