Telecommuting and first job: how to integrate well?

Image de présentation de l'article Telecommuting and first job: how to integrate well?

Starting a new job is always a bit stressful. Starting remotely is even more so! You won't have the opportunity to go around the office to introduce yourself to your colleagues or familiarize yourself with the codes of your new work environment. Thus, we give you 3 tips to succeed in your teleworking integration.

Communicate with your manager in advance

Make sure to communicate with your future manager in advance. If all goes well, he has prepared for your arrival and will help you integrate into the team. However, if he or she has not prepared anything beforehand with you, do not hesitate to contact him or her a few days before the start of your contract.

This way, he/she will have the opportunity to explain to you how your first day is going to go. You will have all the information you need to be ready on the day: working hours, operation and frequency of videoconference meetings, tools to use, access codes.

Improvise virtual appointments and coffee breaks

That's it! Your first days have passed and you have had the opportunity to meet the team that accompanies you. To go further, you can ask the different team members for a virtual meeting to get to know each other.

For example, you can ask them;

  • Where they come from
  • what they used to do as work
  • what they like to do in their free time

This way, you will learn more about themselves and their role in the company.

Another idea is to set up meetings that are similar to 10-minute coffee breaks . The different members connect at a defined time, to exchange in a way other than through work. This way, you can connect with your colleagues and talk to them informally while working from home.

Observe and act according to your company's codes

When you join a new company, you often go through an observation phase. The same is true when working from home, even if it is more complicated. You can try to decipher the non-verbal language of your employees in meetings. Observe who speaks the most, who appears to be the decision-maker, etc. This way, you will be able to understand how everyone works in the company.

It is also essential to find a balance in the way you communicate via the different tools available. When you're new to the team, you ask yourself a number of questions and you just have to ask people orally to get an answer.

At a distance, it's different, you can't call a colleague every time a question comes up. By observing the different interactions, you will know what to do, leave a message on the group, wait for the daily meeting, etc.
