Brussels Beer Project: 1000 years of Belgian beer reinvented
It all began in 2013, in a cellar in Brussels.
Olivier de Brauwere and Sébastien Morvan brew 4 test beers – Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta – and ask their community to choose.
Delta IPA wins the day. Ten years later, it has become the favourite IPA of Belgians and the emblem of a brewery that has shaken up the brewing landscape.
Today, the Brussels Beer Project is:
25,000 hectolitres of beer brewed per year
10 million in turnover
2 breweries in Brussels, one of which manages almost all production
6 bars in Belgium and France
A community of 6000 crowdfunders
and B Corp status, acquired in 2022
A success story in a declining market – because yes, we drink less and less beer in Belgium.
In this episode, Olivier recounts:
Procter & Gamble's pivot to brewing entrepreneurship
the birth of the Brussels Beer Project and the bet of the Delta IPA
how they launched Babylon, the world's first beer brewed from unsold bread
their focus on regenerative agriculture, which brings soil back to life and captures carbon
their radical decision to stop exporting worldwide (even to Japan where they had opened a bar) to focus solely on Europe
Their growth strategy between bars, e-shops and local production
the challenge of innovating in an industry dominated by AB InBev
and their commitment: to reduce their carbon impact by 10% per hectolitre each year
An episode to be enjoyed without moderation, on the creativity, impact and strength of a community.
Hi and welcome to Donne le Rythme, the podcast about Belgian entrepreneurship.
I am Thimothée Remy, a professional coach, and I support those who want to start as a freelancer or move forward more serenely in their entrepreneurial project.
With this podcast, I create a space to get to the heart of the subjects. Through my episodes, you will discover the journeys, the successes but also the struggles of my guests. And above all, you will understand how they actually launched their business.
Over the course of the conversations, they really open up, without filter. In any case, that's still my goal!
Belgium is full of entrepreneurs, inspiring talents that I can't wait to introduce to you.
Thank you for listening and all you have to do is set the pace!
