Job description
Hôpitaux Iris Sud, CHU Saint-Pierre and the Brussels University Hospital (H.U.B) are part of a strategic group of public and university hospital facilities in Brussels, supported by a favorable opinion from the medical councils. This momentum strengthens cooperation between teams while consolidating the stability of our institutions and supporting their evolution toward an increasingly integrated and cohesive care offering. It is a genuine opportunity to join a stimulating environment driven by strong values of public service, as well as clinical and academic excellence.
Hôpitaux IRIS Sud is looking for,
For the Internal Medicine – Stroke Unit department at the Etterbeek-Ixelles site,
A Nurse (m/f/x)
For a full-time or part-time (80%) fixed-term contract
Why we are hiring
Within Hôpitaux Iris Sud, we emphasize the opportunity to develop and grow through training. On this occasion, several of our employees are participating in the "Project 600" (= healthcare assistant or nurse training program specifically intended for workers in the public healthcare sector). Therefore, we are hiring 2 nurses to strengthen our T12 team.
What pathologies are treated at T12?
Our T12 unit is an internal medicine unit that also includes a stroke unit to optimize the care of stroke patients. Patients, whether or not they have been treated with thrombolysis in the emergency department, are transferred to this specialized cerebrovascular unit. They benefit from enhanced continuous monitoring and specialized, tailored care.
As a stroke unit nurse, you will join a multidisciplinary team within our NVC (neuro-cardio-vascular) pole. Currently, our stroke unit comprises 4 beds equipped with monitors and a central parameter reading station.
What the job entails
As a nurse at T12, you provide general and specific nursing care. On some days, you are assigned to the internal medicine side, which comprises 22 beds:
· Provide patient care: technical nursing procedures, parameter monitoring, preparation of medications according to medical prescriptions, assisting the doctor, hygiene and comfort care, etc.
· Ensure quality follow-up: record patient data, parameters, and procedures performed (e.g., Di-RHM), participate in shift reports, participate in organizing and restocking the various areas of the unit, etc.
· Inform, support, and accompany patients and their loved ones
On other days, you are assigned to the stroke unit, where you provide close monitoring for stroke patients to restore or stabilize their health status.
· Accompany the patient throughout their care pathway: from admission to discharge from the stroke unit, including support during various examinations (CT scan, thrombolysis, etc.).
· Provide specific patient care (in addition to standard care): take parameters every fifteen minutes during the first few hours, perform neurological score assessments, etc.
Your manager, your team, and your environment
· You will be supervised by Patricia Blondelet, Head Nurse, and Amandine Sion, Assistant Head Nurse
· The unit consists of 18 nurses, 3 healthcare assistants, 1 logistics assistant, and 1 administrative staff member.
· You will work at the Etterbeek-Ixelles site in Ixelles
What you will love about this role
· Versatility: You will have the opportunity to manage a wide variety of pathologies and intervene in diverse clinical situations that will stimulate your daily practice.
· Skill diversification: You will be able to develop advanced technical and interpersonal skills (neurological monitoring, post-stroke care, patient education, etc.).
· Team spirit: You will join a stable, close-knit team where a good-natured atmosphere prevails (last-minute replacements, schedule arrangements, good jokes, etc.). A positive work environment that makes a daily difference.
What about you?
