Job description

Hôpitaux Iris Sud, CHU Saint-Pierre and the Brussels University Hospital (H.U.B) are part of a strategic grouping project for public and university hospitals in Brussels, supported by a favorable opinion from the medical councils. This dynamic strengthens cooperation between teams while consolidating the stability of our institutions and supporting their evolution toward an increasingly integrated and cohesive care offering. It represents a genuine opportunity to join a stimulating environment driven by strong values of public service, clinical and academic excellence.

Hôpitaux IRIS Sud is looking for,

For the Internal Medicine and Stroke unit at the Etterbeek-Ixelles site,

A Nurse (m/f/x)

For a full-time or part-time (80%) fixed-term contract

Why we are recruiting?

Within Hôpitaux Iris Sud, we emphasize the opportunity to develop and progress through ongoing training. As part of this, several of our staff members are participating in the "Project 600" (= a healthcare assistant or nurse training program specifically intended for workers in the public healthcare sector). Therefore, we are recruiting 2 nurses to strengthen our T12 team.

What pathologies are treated at T12?

Our T12 unit is an internal medicine unit that also includes a stroke unit to optimize the management of stroke patients. Patients, whether or not they received thrombolysis in the emergency department, are transferred to this specialized cerebrovascular unit. They benefit from enhanced continuous monitoring and specialized, tailored care.

As a stroke unit nurse, you will join a multidisciplinary team within our NVC (neuro-cardio-vascular) pole. Currently, our stroke unit comprises 4 beds equipped with monitors and a parameter reading central station.

What does the job involve?

As a nurse at T12, you will provide general and specific nursing care. On certain days, you will be assigned to the internal medicine side, which comprises 22 beds:

·      Provide patient care: technical nursing procedures, parameter monitoring, preparation of medications according to medical prescription, assisting the doctor, hygiene and comfort care, etc.

·      Ensure quality follow-up: record patient data, parameters and performed procedures (e.g., Di-RHM), participate in shift handovers, participate in organizing and restocking the various areas of the unit, etc.

·      Inform, support and accompany patients and their loved ones

On other days, you will be assigned to the stroke unit, where you will provide close monitoring for stroke patients in order to restore or stabilize their health status.

·      Accompany the patient throughout their care journey: From admission to discharge from the stroke unit, including support during various examinations (CT scan, thrombolysis, etc.).

·      Provide specific patient care (in addition to standard care): taking parameters every fifteen minutes during the first hours, performing neurological score assessments, etc.

Your manager, your team and your environment

·      You will be supervised by Patricia Blondelet, Head Nurse, and Amandine Sion, Deputy Head Nurse.

·      The unit consists of 18 nurses, 3 healthcare assistants, 1 logistics assistant and 1 administrative staff member.

·      You will work at the Etterbeek-Ixelles site in Ixelles.

What you will love about this role

·      Versatility: You will have the opportunity to manage a wide variety of pathologies and intervene in diverse clinical situations that will stimulate your daily practice.

·      Skill diversification: You will be able to develop advanced technical and interpersonal skills (neurological monitoring, post-stroke care, patient education, etc.).

·      Team spirit: You will join a stable and close-knit team where a good mood prevails (last-minute replacements, schedule adjustments, good jokes, etc.). A positive working atmosphere that makes a difference every day.

What about you?

Your education

·      You hold a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (graduat) endorsed and registered by the Brabant Medical Commission.

·      You have completed your stroke training or are committed to taking it.

Your experience and knowledge

·      You already have experience or are looking for a first or new professional experience.

·      Experience in neurology or cardiology is an asset.

·      You have a good knowledge of Dutch: You are able to understand the patient's needs and communicate with your colleagues.

Your skills

·      You are able to remain calm even in critical situations. Keeping a cool head allows you to act efficiently and prioritize quickly without compromising the quality of care or communication.

·      You know how to manage your time and priorities to ensure optimal patient follow-up.

·      You are able to analyze, propose and collaborate actively. The exchange of ideas, listening and co-creation are an integral part of daily life at T12.

We also have a lot to offer you

·      Contract type: 1-year fixed-term contract
