YOUR MISSIONS

As part of a multidisciplinary team of 70+ professionals, you will contribute to:

• Provide medical genetics consultations in the fields of the specialty (covering prenatal, postnatal, pediatric and/or adult diagnosis) and according to your expertise
• Collaborate in multidisciplinary clinical and scientific consultations and staffs
• Validate diagnostic tests related to your clinical activity
• Participate in the meetings of the Belgian genetics centres and in the work of the ERN (European Reference Networks)
• Overseeing consultations by genetic counsellors
• Supervise students, interns and assistants
• Develop, if desired, a research activity

SERVICE SPECIFICS

You will join a department appreciated for the quality of its work and the variety of its missions:

• 1 of the 8 Belgian genetics centres, covering diagnosis, teaching, research and service to society
• Team: 4 medical geneticists and 3 consultants (oncogenetics), 12 scientific managers, an operational manager, 50 technologists, 1 bioinformatician, 3 counsellors, 2 psychologists, 1 social worker and 1 social nurse
• Annual activity: > 5,000 consultations, 3,600 NIPTs, >,700 exomes, several thousand analyses per gene panel, including 1500 oncogenetic analyses, > 1000 molecular karyotypes, 1500 karyotypes in acquired cytogenetics
• NGS platforms (MiSeq®, NextSeq®, NovaSeq® and cytogenetics (FISH, karyotypes, GMOs in development). ISO 15189 accreditation and rigorous quality system
• Active partner of the Institute of Rare Diseases and the 15 European Reference Networks (ERNs) to which the Cliniques universitaires Saint-Luc are affiliated, including ERN Ithaca.
• Located on the UCLouvain campus in Brussels, in direct connection with the IREC, IONS and de Duve Institute research centres.

PREREQUISITES

• Title of clinical geneticist recognised by the Belgian regional accreditation commission, or equivalent diploma recognised in an EU Member State
• Teamwork and management of multidisciplinary care
• Fluency in oral and written French and scientific English
   

APPRECIATED ASSETS

• Clinical experience in a specific area
• Scientific publications as author or co-author
• Skills in cytogenetics and/or molecular genetics
• Knowledge of ISO 15189 quality systems
• PhD in Biomedical Sciences
• Practice of oral and written Dutch and/or English
