What if understanding democracy was the first step to better reinventing it?

Sumatra Innovation is an NPO that develops civic education projects to help young people better understand political issues, institutions, and the major challenges of our society.

Our approach? To make these topics accessible and concrete through innovative educational tools, political simulations, and participatory experiences that encourage everyone to explore, question, and get involved.

But understanding democracy is not enough: we also want to reflect on how it could evolve in the 21st century. How can we better meet citizens' expectations and the challenges of our time? We gather recommendations, compare ideas, and analyze the perspectives of various European countries to share reflections and help imagine new forms of democratic participation.

Our commitment also extends to major societal issues, as shown by TRACE, a European project that explores the links between colonial legacies, climate vulnerabilities, and environmental justice. By collaborating with European partners, we bring together different perspectives and encourage a better understanding of the issues that shape our world.

Our ambition: to give young people the keys to understand, question, and actively contribute to building the democracy of tomorrow.
