Sticks, good humor and a dose of fair play, that's the energy of Growing by Hockey! 🏑 In the heart of the capital, the sports non-profit organisation is breaking the routine by making hockey accessible and inclusive for more than 300 children from working-class neighbourhoods in the Brussels region.
Every week after school, hundreds of children can discover hockey in more than 12 elementary schools and sports halls. And all this, without the need to break the piggy bank: all the equipment is provided, all you need is a pair of sneakers and off you go for the adventure! 👟 As for the venues, it's modular: Urban hockey in public squares, floor hockey, all the existing infrastructures are made the most of them. No new land, no unnecessary expenses: everything is designed to be simple, sustainable and economical for families. The little extra? While playing hockey, French and Dutch are taught step by step!
But Growing by Hockey is much more than a sports project, it is above all an inspiring mission: to make hockey accessible to all children - even to those who had never heard of it - and to offer a first student job to young people aged 16 to 32. Trained as facilitators, they also receive a real boost for their future thanks to pedagogical training, Dutch lessons, career advice and even CV support. A real booster towards employment that goes far beyond the framework of sport! 🚀
Since its creation in 2022, Growing by Hockey has had an XXL ambition : to launch a City Hockey League, to allow every child who wishes to join an outdoor club and even to found a Hockey Foundation. Their energy has already been praised by the Molenbeek 2024 Sports Merit, rewarding a sporting initiative that is both remarkable and inclusive. 🥇

Growing by Hockey is an explosive mix of inspiring mission, sharing of expertise and collective spirit. 🤝
Every week, 30 student facilitators coach by not only passing on techniques: they share confidence, fair play and inclusion. Among the key moments of the non-profit organisation, there is the big monthly party: an inter-school tournament where children, parents and animators meet in a supercharged atmosphere, with prizes, smiles and pride! Not to mention the biannual teambuilding of the animators, made up of sport, shared meals and moments of complicity that unite the team even more.
Their uniqueness? Concrete and intelligent choices: using existing infrastructure, providing equipment directly on site, simplifying activities to make them accessible, professionalizing the training of facilitators and cultivating diversity at the heart of the project. In just three years, the evolution is striking: refined programs, strengthened organization and flourishing local impact!
In short, there is no empty talk here: the team is united, enthusiastic and passionate. The energy is palpable, the smiles contagious and each project unites the community even more. Growing by Hockey breathes social dynamism into Brussels' working-class neighbourhoods, making hockey accessible to all, transforming an elitist sport into an inclusive collective force, where children and families coexist, learn, laugh and grow together. 🧡
Present in 9 municipalities in the Brussels region and 13 places, the team mobilizes underused school and public infrastructure, creating a real local network where 250 children discover hockey in their neighborhood every week. 🏑
No construction of new pitches, no expensive purchase of equipment: the equipment is supplied on site, the existing facilities are optimised. A clever, sustainable and responsible approach for the planet (and the wallet)!
By training + 30 young student facilitators, Growing by Hockey promotes professional integration, develops soft skills, languages, team spirit and self-confidence, while bringing generations, cultures and families together around a positive and inclusive project. A winning combo! 🏆
Each month, the tournaments bring together children, parents, and animators: a real community celebration that celebrates the spirit of the neighbourhood, the pride of families and the ambition to make hockey joyful, accessible and unifying ! 🎉
